What is Total Consecration to Jesus through Mary?

The 33-day long Preparation for Total Consecration to Jesus Christ through Mary designed by St. Louis de Montfort (1673-1716) is a spiritual exercise and voyage to increase our spirituality so that we can serve our Lord Jesus Christ. To consecrate means to make or declare something as sacred. To undertake this preparation is a serious matter where consecrating oneself to Jesus through Mary has the character of a vow.

St. Louis de Montfort (1673-1716) was an important French missionary and preacher of authentic living of the Gospel. He insisted that in order to lead a Christian life, one needed to participate in the life of Jesus Christ. Moreover, in order to participate fully in the life of Jesus, one needed a relationship with Mary. St. Louis felt that one of the surest ways to have a life in Jesus Christ was to surrender oneself to the Mother of God, just as the Lord had done when he took  “the form of a slave, coming in human likeness (Phil 2: 7)” for our salvation. Because Jesus gave himself completely to us through Mary, those wishing to give themselves completely to Jesus Christ must do the same.
